2 Weeks in Italy

As mentioned in the previous post, this summer I spent 12 days train travelling Italy and I thought I would do a further breakdown of where we went. So without further ado...

To begin our trip we flew from London Heathrow to Milan which became our base for the next 4 days. The flight is only 2.5 hours long making it nice and easy. As we arrived fairly late and were staying further out from the centre we had just about enough time to see Milan's Duomo before grabbing a slice of pizza and heading back to the hotel.

On our first full day we then went to Lake Como. Varenna is an easy 1 hour train ride from Milan and we then caught the 15 minute ferry over to Bellagio which only cost 9 euros return ticket.
We were only here for a day however we have decided we already wish to return for a couple of nights!
The next day we then visited Turin which is roughly 1.5 hours from Milan easily reached by train.

On our third full day we left Milan and boarded the 2 hour train to Venice for the next two nights! Again the train was easy and direct. We stayed near Rialto bridge in Venice which meant we were very central to all the popular sights however the only public transport in Venice is the water bus. This can make it slightly more difficult to get from the main station to the centre.

From Venice we then made our way to Florence for a further two nights, for more information you can see my post here.

We then ventured on to our final stop and the longest, Rome! We were here for 4 nights, however on the first full day we visited Pompeii, which is a must see.

It was one of the busiest trips I have ever had but it was also one of the most fun. We used trains to get from each place and they were all quick, easy and on time!
